Description
This chess set is all about Cambridge and Oxford: Stunning architecture, generous and powerful benefactors, inspiring academics, and an 800 year old university rivalry. The playing pieces were modelled on prominent figures and landmarks from each city by an award-winning sculptor, and designed as a set for elegant presentation and play.
The 32 playing pieces are accompanied by a 20 page booklet which provides an introductory taster to the history and setting of the figures chosen for the set.
The figurines are hand cast in heavy resin and are hand painted. The king piece is approximately 70 mm high, the pawn figurine about 60 mm. The base diameter is 28 mm with felt on the bottom. The design process and original sculpting of the playing pieces spanned more than three years. The set is handmade in the UK by the renowned English chess producer Studio Anne Carlton, showing a stunning level of detail on each piece.
Due to being a hand painted artisan product, every set will be unique and your set will vary slightly in color from the pictures on our website.
These playing pieces look beautiful on traditional wood and marble boards. A board is not included, but a themed board is sold separately.
